Selected objects: what we keep, what lasts

There are objects we buy and forget. And then there are others that we keep - that stay on the table, in the hall, by the bed, and that end up belonging to the house more than to us.

This column is about those. The object that lasts longer than a trend. The hand-blown glass ashtray that also serves as an everything-holder. The wicker basket we find year after year. The ceramic cicada placed near a window, which seems to have always been there.

Choosing an object is a bet on time. We prefer one beautiful basket over ten fabric bags, an antique carafe over a plastic cup. It's less, but it's more - and this is the idea upheld in every issue of the Magazine.
